Summer Camp Columbia, Camp Survive 2011

Learning to Survive in a world of Differences

-        Bullying - 90% of 4th through 9th graders report being victims of Bullying

In an effort to help our youth better understand bullying, and how to deal with it in a positive manner we developed this specialized summer camp program.

Camp Survive - a one-week overnight outdoor summer camp in South Carolina for males. The camp is focused on teaching male youth ages 11-17 how to survive in a world of differences.

In addition to two martial arts classes a day, youth participate in a variety of other activities such as:

§  Obstacle courses

§  Morning p.t. (physical training)

§  Sports Buffet (martial arts, soccer, kick ball, touch football)

§  Group skits for Evening Entertainment

§  And Teambuilding exercises

Campers are taught how to setup their tent and camp areas, and through a myriad of school bullying scenarios male youth learn how to deal with issues that might come up as they go through their school years.

§  Campers are organized into small groups.

§  The Groups are given scenarios to role play, which are later discussed in an open forum with camp staff and campers

§  Groups are given time to plan and practice their scenarios.

§  groups are then called up one at a time for their role play

Campers will sleep in tents, and experience South Carolina’s beautiful nature.

The program will teach individuals how to resolve problems in an effective way by:

·        Coping with “Schoolyard Bullies”.

·        Understanding how kids as bullies become adult bullies.

·        Gaining confidence to win without fighting.

By understanding important factors about bullying, this creates an intelligent approach to assist young people in creating a healthy alternative to conflicts. Here are some suggested conflict resolution skills that are also important in the program that we provide.

Learning that fighting is not an honorable solution to conflict.

·        Developing the confidence to resolve conflict creatively.

·        Understanding the effects of bullying, individually and socially.

·        Understanding what creates a victim/bully mentally.

Registration: March 31st –June 25th

The Registration Fee of $65 to hold your position in the camp can be paid here.
